CD DOCUMENTATION: CDPD1, CDPD2, Demo 1, Clipart & Fonts
In general, these 'Workbench' style discs are straightforward enough, with
icons for text <there's more information on the discs themselves>,
graphics, games and aniations. Some more complicated programs require
either extra memory, a real keyboard, different versions of the operating
system or the attatchment of extra hardware or limbs. "Your mileage may
vary." We cannot help with technical problems involving individual programs
on these CDs - most have documentation advising of their use and system
requirements.
Getting things working rules of thumb:
<1> What does SnoopDOS say? <SnoopDOS watches the operating system and can
report on success or failure when prgrams try to start up, can't find
certain files, and quit with n error message. One of the most common
problems with rogue software, and SnoopDOS can usually catch it. It's
usually found in the C directories of Workbench-y disks, and it's installed
as part of InstallExtras <if you use it>.
<2> System lockup? If screens look mangled or programs hang, try using the
early-startup menus available on AGA machines and turning off CPU caches
and defraging back to ECS screenmodes. Also very common with pre-AGA
<1991/2> software. Usually found wih games and demos.
Between them, CDPD1 and CDPD2 contain Fred Fish disks 1 thru to 760, the
entire Scope 220-disk collection, the final image of the AB20.larc.nasa.gov
Internet archive, a stash of great music to listen to, and more. Full
indexing is available for the Fish and Scope collections - great for
finding that oddball utility.
Demo 1 is more leisure-related. A host of games, music with the Protracker
system - 4000 samples for your own tunes and 1000 tunes supplied, demos and
animations, demo versions of commercial software, as well as fonts,
clip-art and images for your graphics use. Special feature: Amazing Tunes
CDTV <PAL only>, an audio-visual music frontend for the tune collection -
the first ever proper CD-ROM demo.
The Clip-Art and Fonts CD, because of its nature <IE being a pure
data-disc> is non-bootable from either keydisk-swap or direct bootup when
used with console-style machines. For normal Amiga users, simply boot
Workbench and insert the CD into your drive - the 'ClipFonts' icon will
come up, and yu can devle into the disc as usual. Let's face it, CDTV
users and CD32 users won't be interested in clip-art and fonts unless
they've gt a very expanded machine, in whch case they'll have a hard drive
and extra memory, and won't be booting using the keydisk-swap system
*ANYWAY* ;-> If you wish to examing this disc with a console-style machine,
eject the Network/Comms CD once it's fully booted and insert ClipFonts.
<No eject-reset, remember>
Text files supplied on the CDs with more instructions. Standard advice
follows: With many of these items, a knowledge of the Shell and AmigaDOS
is a great asset. Use of the Shell, WorkBench and AmigaDOS are all
documented in your system manuals as supplied with your machine. Learning
about these makes life with your Amiga infinitely less frustrating.
